Walkways and Paths
We were new to the property and building as we needed. The paths we would use were not defined yet. And there was grass everywhere. I decided to lay out the garden beds and live with them for a summer. I could add a bit of plastic and some wood chips to give an idea of what space would be used and kill the grass underneath at the same time. Plus, it would give my husband an idea of what was planned. Rock walls are hard to move, and if we were to adjust them now was the time.
I had a really long northern garden planned, and we kept walking through it. This was not going to work. So I broke the garden into two sections with a path between. My border collie Bo is incredibly intelligent. He understands he can not go 'into' the rock flower beds. The short cut helped him too.
When I laid out the path between the house and the garage my husband was not impressed. He likes straight lines, I do not. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, and he didn't want to meander along a path to get to the house every day.
